The BlueWater 8mm Canyon Pro wraps an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene core (the same material as Dyneema) in a high-strength cabled polyester sheath to produce an extremely strong, hard-wearing, and genuinely static rope.

Developed by BlueWater in collaboration with leading canyon trainer and American Canyoneering Association founder Rich Carslon (I highly recommend the resources on his website Canyons & Crags), this rope was designed for the rigors of Utah’s challenging sandstone canyons.

This small diameter, lightweight, and high-strength rope is ideally suited for canyoners undertaking more remote, challenging adventures.

The Canyon Pro is substantially lighter than most canyoning ropes, which becomes even more noticeable when wet due to the naturally hydrophobic fibres absorbing less water.

The combination of a high-strength polyester sheath with a HMPE core produces a genuinely static rope, with less than 1 per cent stretch for an average canyoner, reducing wear.

The sheath provides exceptional UV and abrasion resistance, while a firm braid protects the core from grit and grime, resulting in a longer life-span.

With an impressive 22.2 kN tensile strength, this rope has become a crossover specialty for many critical industrial and military applications.

This rope excels on canyoning trips where reduced weight and high-performance are a priority.

Note: Skinny abseiling ropes like the Canyon Pro can run much faster than traditional canyoning ropes. Always use canyoning-specific descenders that provide variable friction settings with the ability to easily add friction while descending (such as the Critr, Sqwurel, PaliKoa, Hoodoo, ATS, or Totem). Use with ATC-style devices and Pirana descenders is not recommended as they bend the rope sharply, which can cause sheath slippage.

Key advantages:

  • ultra-light, compact, yet incredibly strong
  • truly static, with less than 1 per cent stretch at average body-weight
  • fibres naturally resist water absorption, reducing rope weight
  • firm sheath braid delivers greater durability
