BlueWater 8mm Canyon Extreme rope (per metre)

$10.16

The ultimate canyoning rope, particularly for more remote, challenging adventures. The Canyon Extreme is a compact, ultra-light rope that combines a Technora sheath for superior cut and abrasion resistance with a super-strong and truly-static HMPE core (the same material as Dyneema).

The BlueWater 8mm Canyon Extreme takes advantage of two advanced fibres to produce an exceptional rope that is stronger and harder wearing that traditional canyoning ropes, while being thinner, lighter, and more compact.

The sheath is made from Technora, which not only has exceptional cut and abrasion resistance, but can handle high temperatures. These natural properties are enhanced by a sheath-heavy design (58 per cent of the rope mass is made up by the protective sheath), resulting in a substantially longer life-span.

The high-modulus polyethylene core, which has the strength of a steel cable of the same diametre, allows the rope to be made much thinner while achieving an impressive tensile strength of 24.5 kN. It also produces a genuinely static rope, with less than 1 per cent stretch for an average canyoner, reducing rope bounce and edge abrasion.

Not only is the Canyon Extreme substantially lighter than most canyoning ropes, the use of naturally hydrophobic fibres makes this difference even more noticeable when wet.

Ideally suited for remote or exploratory adventures, where reducing pack weight and bulk are vital, along with more vertical canyons that require larger lengths of rope.

One of the best canyoning ropes on the market, it delivers exceptional strength and abrasion resistance in a surprisingly lightweight and compact package.

Note: Skinny abseiling ropes like the Canyon Extreme can run much faster than traditional canyoning ropes. Always use canyoning-specific descenders that provide variable friction settings with the ability to easily add friction while descending (such as the Critr, Sqwurel, PaliKoa, Hoodoo, ATS, or Totem). Use with ATC-style devices and Pirana descenders is not recommended as they bend the rope sharply, which can cause sheath slippage.

Key advantages:

  • Ultra-light, compact, yet incredibly strong
  • Technora sheath provides exceptional cut and abrasion resistance
  • Truly static, with less than 1 per cent stretch at body-weight
  • Sheath heavy design extends rope life
  • Fibres naturally resist water absorption, reducing rope weight
